Pagan Rites group member DJ City (real name Johan Norling) recently returned to action with his first new material for almost two years. Here he continues his welcome revival with a decidedly loved-up two-tracker on Public Possession (his second 12" for the German imprint). A-side "A&F" is particularly delicious, sitting somewhere between the saucer-eyed, piano-sporting Balearic house of sometime label-mate Telephones, the colourful lusciousness of turn-of-the-90s Italian dream house and a German take on mid-80s Italo-disco. He continues on a similar - albeit notably deeper - vein on flipside title track "Important Message", adding his own deadpan vocals ("I hope you don't die taking drugs tonight") to a warm and tactile backing track that fixes bubbly nu-disco synths and proto-house flourishes to vintage Larry Heard beats and chords.
