Stroom's latest must-have set takes a trawl through the sparse but inspired back catalogue of 19 Gadi Pirms Sakuma, an impossible-to-pigeonhole Latvian band operative in the late 1980s and early 90s. Gathering together a mixture of previously released and never-before-heard material, "19 Years Before The Beginning" brilliantly showcases the band's unique mix of skewed synth-pop, unusual instrumentation (bassoon anyone?), near Balearic grooves, nods to Western dance music and tipsy post-electro. There's much to enjoy throughout, not least the stylish musical eccentricity that marked out the band as one of Eastern Europe's most intriguing musical exports at the tail end of the Soviet era.
