We've become accustomed to Al Kent delivering killer disco re-edits, so it should come as little surprise to find that his latest outing for Sydney's People Must Jam imprint is another banger. While some of his edits err on the side of dusty-fingered purism, "Reason To Live" is a life-affirming instrumental workout, with tightened-up breaks underpinning all manner of deliciously uplifting instrumentation. There are crunchy disco-funk guitar lines, hooky electric pianos, a decidedly rubbery bassline, punchy horns and all manner of crazed synthesizer solos. It's undoubtedly one of his strongest reworks for sometime, and should become a staple of disco sets over the next few months.
