Gerry Read has arguably been one of underground house music's most prolific producers in recent years, releasing a high number of top notch EPs - and two solid albums - on a dizzying array of labels. Here he adds another imprint to his bulging CV, serving up a tough, throbbing and occasionally dark collection of tracks on Clone Jack For Daze. These are basement bothering club jams, designed to make the most of booming soundsystems. Stylistically, Read goes in a number of different directions - contrast, for example, the footwork-inspired "Stand By The Bomb", the dense South American drums of "Tango", and the freakish broken techno heaviness of "The Grand National" - whilst retaining a hissing, all-analogue feel throughout.
