Sometimes Things Change is an album after a year of profound change. A year with a new job, moving houses, and many visits to the IVF clinic. Sometimes Things Change brings closure, and is an artistic starting point. In the course of seven compositions memories, thoughts and fantasia meet.
“The sounds (…) they’re from whatever I happen to be doing wherever I happen to be. But these sounds hold memories because I was there, living those moments.” These recorded sounds - flowing like a journal - are mediated through compositional/improvisational interventions. By doing this, the artist expands the source material beyond its own circumstances.
Bryn Davis is a composer based in St. Paul, Minnesota. Her works are oriented around serendipity, fluid possibilities, and (not infrequently) absurdity. They have won a variety of awards including the 2022 ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Award.
