Big Crown Records is proud to present Derya Yidirim & Grup Simsek's first 7" on the label. They came to New York in June 2024 to record their new album at The Diamond Mine Studio in Queens, with Leon Michels producing These are the first two pieces from these sessions and they are very revealing of what will be heard on the new album. "Cool Hand" is a beautiful juxtaposition of intensity and lightheartedness with lyrics that exploring the depths of unrequited love while the music is uplifting and bright. Derya's passionate vocals and idiosyncratic saz playing ride the band's infectious groove as she conjures images of pink mountains and unbloomed yellow tulips. The message is poetic and complicated , declaring "I love you, I'm crazy about you" over and over again, but ultimately finding a sense of peace by accepting a broken heart. The B-side "Yakamoz" is a deeply moving song that captures the deep feelings associated with displacement and loss. The text tells the story of someone who was forced to leave his home, the place of his roots, and doesn't know whether he will ever return. The band's steady groove and tortured vocals paint a vivid picture of the devastation experienced by the protagonist, who eventually realizes that her roots lie within herself and every place she goes is her home.
