Here’s Tom Encore — a veteran of the electronic music scene (known to the wider audience by his nickname Skarby) — and his EP entitled “Overtones”. He’s a producer who has proven time and again that he can deliver the goods in practically any genre of electronic music, regardless of the tempo, but on this EP he returns to his roots and serves us a solid portion of really juicy drum & bass. And certainly those who would expect to hear what Tom Encore has come to be known from his recent dubstep endeavours — that is, really heavy, sometimes even brutal sounds — will be surprised. This EP unveils his softer side.
The title track 'Overtones’ produced in collaboration with Harland, is a great example, with its exceptionally warm and lush sound. While it’s a definitely a lighter tune, which you can appreciate in your comfy slippers at home, a discerning raver will also enjoy dancing to these sounds in the club.
However, there are stronger, rougher bits too — like “Bad”, made in collaboration with Alegria, which is a powerful ‘stomper’ with clearly defined broken drums and a quite militant attitude. The EP closes with “Missing You”, a classic roller balancing neatly between modern liquid and more atmospheric stuff.
