A decade has now passed since Steve Huerta released his debut single. These days, he's a little less prolific than he once was, but the Berlin-based Californian is still capable of releasing genuinely magical music that tends towards the deep and psychedelic. It's that vibe that he successfully explores on Liquid Social, his first 12" of 2022. Opener 'Zappin' sees him wrap a deep, sub-heavy bassline and hip-house breakbeat in deep space pads, hallucinogenic bleeps and far-sighted electronics, while 'Thrift Store Katana' brilliantly blurs the boundaries between electro, breakbeat and turn-of-the-90s bleep & bass. Elsewhere, 'Liquid Social' is a chunky, bass-heavy slab of Dubtribe Soundsystem-esque San Francisco hippy house and 'Space Dolphins' sits somewhere between bleep and 21st century tech-house.
