Be With Records continues to reissue gems from the vast archives of the KPM music library. They're planning on releasing a number of sets from legendary incidental music composer Keith Mansfield, starting with this gem from 1976. What makes the album so essential is its' super-funky A-side, which sees Mansfield and his band of musicians laying down a series of smoking, breakbeat-driven soul, funk and jazz-funk jams that were clearly inspired by Blaxploitation movies of the period. In keeping with library music albums of the period, the second side is a little more string-drenched and laidback, with far more luscious orchestration, big band style arrangements and "Pages From Ceefax" melodic motifs. It's all still great of course, just different in tone to the club-ready A-side cuts.
