Mark Grusane may be best-known as a DJ and record collector, but the Chicagoan has been making music since the dawn of the house era in the mid 1980s. This EP, his first for six years, showcases a quartet of raw, Windy City jack-tracks that he laid to tape in 2004. It's house music stripped back to its original essentials - machine drums, more machine drums and the sparsest of melodic elements - with all four tracks sounding like the kind of wild, sweaty rhythm tracks that Ron Hardy would have spun into his sets at the Music Box all those years ago. If you love dropping drum tracks in your sets, or are a fan of jackin' Chicago grooves, then you need the EP in your life.
