Ivan Masic has been a key figure in Melbourne's electronic music scene since the mid 1990s as a DJ, dancer, record shop manager, studio owner and member of experimental bands Council of Elders and Wunderlust. Here he dons the Ex Ponto alias and unleashes a debut solo album that was inspired by his Balkan roots, and specifically Yugoslav-era experimentalists (Rex Ilusivii, Kozmetika, Miha Kralj and Belgrade's legendary Club 20/44. Musically, it's a moody and atmospheric affair, with Masic joining the dots between post-punk, sound collage, coldwave, no wave and the kind of squally, sax-laden early 80s musical fusions more often associated with the scenes in Sheffield and Bristol than Melbourne or Belgrade.
