The second release on Elena Colombi's Osare! Editions imprint is something rather special: a retrospective of little-known works by Greek composer Thanasis Zlatanos that combines previously released solo work from the 1980s with cuts recorded with his band Nekropolis and material buried in his vast archive of unheard tracks. It's a vibrant and deliciously off-kilter collection of synthesizer-heavy pieces that join the dots between wave music, skewed leftfield pop, ambient, new age and, most surprisingly, Macedonian folk music. The plentiful highlights include the ghostly, traditional-meets-futuristic new age electronica of "The Crystal Sight (Excerpt II)", the doom-laden coldwave throb of "Master Chameleon", the Vocoder-laden operatic poignancy of "The New Barbarians" and the bass-laden slacker pop headiness of "No Expectations".
