Having ended 2019 with a fine double-album compilation, Red Laser Records has begun 2020 with the tenth instalment in their multi-artist EP series, which has now been running for the best part of eight years. Label regular Ste Spandex sets the ball rolling via "NuGroove", a wonderfully oddly swung number that wraps alien electronics, rugged acid lines and sustained organ chords around a loose-limbed rhythm track, before Baba & Ganoush excitedly jog their way through ultra-melodious Italo-disco pastures on "Stockholm". Fellow Italo revivalist Franz Scala impresses via the chiming synthesizer melodies, heavily accented vocals and cheeky 1980s Euro-pop vibes of "Ka Zan (extended dance version)", before Ondata doffs a cap to both Bobby Orlando and Patrick Cowley on the throbbing-but-melancholic "Below".
