We loved Timo Lassy at the start, but he honestly seems to get better and better as the years move on – with a shift that's a bit like that of the sound of Nicola Conte as his records progressed – much more towards the sorts of sophisticated jazz grooves that first inspired his performance in the early days! Timo's on tenor on all tracks, and also plays a bit of piano – but there's also this beautiful fuller ensemble, who bring loads of color and soul to the set – making Timo's horn almost sound like that of Stanley Turrentine out from of some of the large groups he worked with in the late 60s! The set features guest work from Jukka Eskola on trumpet and Eero Koivistoinen on tenor – and although there's vocals on two tracks, most of the set is instrumental – at a level that seems to take the hip large ensemble mode of the MPS/Saba generation to more contemporary territory. Titles include "Love Spirit", "Northern Express", "Lashes", "Q&A", "Elegy For A Free Spirit", and the tracks "Harlem's Way" and "Trouble", both with vocals from Joyce Elaine Yuille.
