Last year, Freedom Engine served up a fine EP featuring contemporary reworks of Mathew Jonson's 2004 minimal techno classic "Decompression". Here, the German label serves up four more tried-and-tested interpretations. Arguably the headline attraction is the opening GMT Remix by Guy Gerber, Phil Moffa and Seth Troxler, a driving, alien-sounding techno interpretation bristling with moody bass, spacey pads, simmering strings and wonky, dark-room noises. Mike Shannon's "Re-compression Remix" is an altogether deeper - if no less wonky - revision, while Deadbeat brilliantly re-imagines the track as a slow and spaced-out chunk of future dub/bleep techno fusion. To round things off, Natalia Escobar delivers a superb ambient translation that sounds like an unreleased track from the late, great Pete Namlook.
