While it is easy to mistake Porn Sword Tobacco for a product of the recent wave of deconstructed techno-not-techno, the artist has, in reality, been present but riding below radar since the early 00s. Real name Henrik Jonsson, the man has been doing his thing since the very beginning and it took a label as well-curated as Berlin's Acido to bring him into the limelight. Dynamo Dreesen's imprint is a constant source of quality electronics, whether that be lo-fi house or machine drum punk, and this latest double pack from Porn Sword himself is a perfect encapsulation of everything the label stands for. "Track 1" and "Track 2", which both receive a side each on which to develop, are loose and explorative structures that only gain a definitive groove by the middle of the B-side, but the build-up is almost better than the climax itself. The second disc follows similarly dubbed-out pastures, and each sound is engulfed in a distant haze; "Track 4" is perhaps the best piece of ambient to hit our shelves this year, and it's fair to say that this whole extended EP should come as an instant buy. Magnificent stuff - dreamy and imperceptible in every way.
