It was undoubtedly a smart move by Dekmantel to ask Randomer to deliver the second installment in their UFO Series, which focuses on more the experimental, off-kilter and futuristic end of the techno spectrum. The sometime L.I.E.S, Clone and Numbers man hits the spot from the start, coming on like Aphex Twin on the IDM-goes-techno flex of "Running Dry". "My Ears Hurt" is a straight-up distorted techno throbber, while "Rendell Pips" somehow manages to fuse melodious, Artificial Intelligence era IDM positivity with African style, drum machine polyrhythms. He maintains a similar focus on "Music For Two Kalimbas", a thrillingly tropical techno stomper built around haunting melody lines.
